Medical Definition of SUPERIOR INTERCOSTAL VEIN
: a vein on each side formed by the union of the veins draining the first two or three intercostal spaces of which the one on the right usually empties into the azygos vein but sometimes into the right brachiocephalic vein and the one on the left empties into the left brachiocephalic vein after crossing the arch of the aorta
